Bare Bones Software Releases BBEdit 11.1
New Built-in Git Menu and New Support for EditorConfig Among Dozens of Enhancements to the Latest BBEdit 11

NORTH CHELMSFORD, Mass. – April 29, 2015 – Bare Bones Software today announced the release and immediate availability of BBEdit® 11.1, a significant update to its professional strength HTML and text editor.

BBEdit 11.1 introduces built-in support for Git and for EditorConfig. In addition, the BBEdit 11.1 update also introduces a new CSS/SCSS language module, a new Arrange submenu and a new Save All in Window command, plus enhanced command-line tools and INI support, refined navigation, file management and preferences, and much more.

“We’re very happy with the response to all the work we’ve done for BBEdit 11,” said Rich Siegel, founder and CEO of Bare Bones Software, Inc. “In our ongoing effort to make tools that help our customers be more productive, we’ve added an assortment of features and refinements in this new version. We’re particularly excited to introduce built-in Git support, and to support EditorConfig as a valuable new standard.”

Now, developers who use Git can access the core Git features from directly within BBEdit via the new Git menu instead of switching to the command line or to a dedicated GUI Git client. The new Git menu automatically presents available operations, the majority of which are enabled when the active document corresponds to a file in a local Git working copy.

“Using the Git menu in BBEdit 11.1 for development work on SpamSieve, EagleFiler, etc. is great for two reasons,” explained Michael Tsai, founder of C-Command. “First, it makes for a smooth workflow where I can check the blame, view the revision log, or compare versions without leaving BBEdit’s editing environment. Second, none of the full Git clients I’ve seen are designed for the workflow of: here’s a file, show me its log and revisions. Now, when I want to see a file’s history, I can just open it in BBEdit and go to the Git menu.”

The new built-in EditorConfig support encompasses the majority of core universal and domain-specific properties, plus several properties that are explicitly BBEdit-specific, and BBEdit-specific properties for keys that originate in Emacs. The new CSS/SCSS language module improves folding, keyword coloring, function navigation and text completion.

BBEdit 11.1 is a recommended update which includes many other enhancements to features and interface refinements, plus fixes for specific reported issues. Detailed information on all of the changes and improvements in BBEdit 11.1 can be found at:
