Bare Bones Software Releases BBEdit 9.5
Adds New Live Search and Event-specific Script Attachability Capabilities, Plus Enhancements Such as Browsing Zip Files

BEDFORD, Mass. – April 27, 2010 – Bare Bones Software today announced the release and immediate availability of BBEdit® 9.5, a significant update to its professional strength HTML and text editor.

BBEdit 9.5 introduces a new in-window Live Search bar that actively searches for text as it is typed and highlights matches in the window’s editing view. The new Live Search bar also includes “previous” and “next” arrows, as well as their corresponding key commands and Emacs key bindings. The new Live Search bar supplants the modal Quick Search window.

Complementing its long-standing support for attaching scripts to menu commands, BBEdit 9.5 introduces the ability to attach scripts to more than a dozen specific application and document events, including ‘open’ and ‘save’.

BBEdit 9.5 also includes support for directly browsing Zip files, significant enhancements to text completion, a new “Reveal in Project List” command for quick identification of the active document and contextual Subversion commands within project file lists.

“BBEdit 9.5 features a great deal of small additions and enhancements, each of which works to improve productivity in ways which are both subtle and rewarding,” said Rich Siegel, founder and CEO of Bare Bones Software, Inc. “Live Search presents a lightweight and efficient addition to BBEdit’s legendary search capabilities; the ability to attach scripts to specific application and document events makes it possible to make BBEdit a first-class citizen in more advanced workflows. Together, all of the improvements in this version add up to a huge win for our customers.”

“The revolutionary scripting implementation in BBEdit 9.5 works really well for those who need to build bulletproof, excuse-free workflows,” explained Hanaan Rosenthal, president, Custom Flow Solutions, LLC, and author of ‘Learn AppleScript: The Comprehensive Guide to Scripting and Automation on Mac OS X, Third Edition.’ “Being able to reliably attach scripts to application and document events opens a whole new range of possibilities.”

The BBEdit 9.5 update also includes fixes to reported issues and significant interface enhancements and refinements. Detailed information on all of the changes and improvements in BBEdit 9.5 can be found at:
