Bare Bones Software Releases BBEdit 11.6
First Pro Text Editor With Built-In Kite Support, New Trial Model Allows Continued Use of Text Editing Features

NORTH CHELMSFORD, Mass. – July 5, 2016 – Bare Bones Software today announced the release and immediate availability of BBEdit® 11.6, a significant update to its professional strength text and code editor.

BBEdit 11.6 is the first professional text editor to introduce built-in support for Kite, an “artificial pair programmer” which assesses code as one edits. Kite provides advanced code completion, error correction, and contextual documentation for library and API calls. More information on Kite is available at https://kite.com/.

“We’re very excited to have BBEdit as the first third-party editor to ship with built-in support for Kite,” said Adam Smith, founder and CEO of Kite. “We’re looking forward to working with Bare Bones Software as both of our products evolve and grow.”

In addition, BBEdit 11.6 introduces more than one hundred changes across multiple functional areas of the application, including new features, refinements and fixes to specific reported issues. Beyond overall look-and-feel improvements, the new version integrates more closely with Unix-based tool workflows via a new command-line tool for interpreting Unix script output, the Find Differences command offers new text comparison options, and new ‘.gitignore’ recognition improves efficiency for customers who use Git as part of their everyday workflow.

BBEdit 11.6 also introduces a new evaluation model in which the full, complete feature set is available for the first 30 days of use. At the end of the 30-day evaluation period, the feature set changes to include BBEdit’s powerful editing capabilities, but not its web authoring tools or other exclusive features. BBEdit’s exclusive features may be re-enabled at any time with a purchased license.

“Our goal with the new demo model is to make BBEdit even easier to evaluate; and we encourage everyone to give it a try,” said Rich Siegel, founder and CEO of Bare Bones Software, Inc. “We’ve made each of the changes in this update, from Kite support to UI adjustments, in order to help our customers be even more productive.”

BBEdit 11.6 requires Mac OS X 10.9.5 or later, and is a recommended update which is free of charge to all BBEdit 11 customers. Detailed information on all of the changes in BBEdit 11.6 can be found at:
