Bare Bones Software Releases BBEdit 12.5
Now Mojave Ready with Dark Mode Support, New Searchable Commands
Panel, Lorem Ipsum Generation, and More

NORTH CHELMSFORD, Mass. – November 8, 2018 – Bare Bones Software today announced the release and immediate availability of BBEdit® 12.5, a significant update to its professional strength text and code editor.

BBEdit 12.5 introduces built-in basic language support for Swift, a new “Commands…” command that provides rapid access to BBEdit’s many menu commands, a Lorem Ipsum generator, extensive internal improvements to improve performance and compatibility with modern macOS versions, and enhancements to many of BBEdit’s well-known features, including Multi-File Search, Find Differences, and much more.

The new “Commands…” command provides rapid access to BBEdit’s menu commands, user scripts and filters, clippings, and stationery. The Commands panel also makes it easy to see and change keyboard equivalents for BBEdit’s menu commands.

Version 12.5 also introduces the ability to generate Lorem Ipsum text for insertion as needed. Lorem Ipsum generation is also available to Clippings and in HTML document placeholders.

BBEdit’s legendary searching features receive a number of enhancements including a “Reload” button for repeating a Multi-File search, the option to filter folders as well as files, and new “Find First” and “First Occurrence of Selected Text” commands for faster navigation.

Version 12.5 now includes built-in basic Swift language support and lightweight support for sandbox profile (SBPL) files, and is the first version to use the macOS hardened runtime for increased security protections when running on macOS 10.14.

“This is the first update for BBEdit with Mojave in mind,” said Rich Siegel, founder and CEO of Bare Bones Software, Inc. “Our 64-bit release of BBEdit 12.1 placed us in a great position to support Dark Mode, the Hardened Runtime, notarization, and more of Mojave’s great features. The Commands panel is a game changer, and helps bridge the gap for those who haven’t yet read our extensive user manual. And as always, there’s a little something for everyone, with enhancements to some of our best-known features, and tweaks and tunes throughout.”

Siegel continued, “…and just a reminder: if you’re still using TextWrangler, it’s time to switch to BBEdit.”

BBEdit 12.5 also includes enhancements and refinements to existing features, and fixes for specific reported issues, and is a recommended and free update to all registered customers with BBEdit 12.

BBEdit offers a generous evaluation model in which its full feature set is available for the first 30 days of use. At the end of the 30-day evaluation period, BBEdit will continue to run with a permanent feature set which includes its powerful editing capabilities, but not its web authoring tools or other exclusive features. BBEdit’s exclusive features may be re-enabled at any time with a purchased license.

“We are still hard at work on bringing BBEdit back to the Mac App Store,” explained Rich Siegel, founder and CEO of Bare Bones Software, Inc. “Rest assured: as soon as we have news, we will let everyone know.”

BBEdit 12 requires macOS 10.12.6 or later, and is fully compatible with macOS 10.14 “Mojave.” Detailed information on all of the changes in BBEdit 12.5 can be found at:
