Bare Bones Software Releases BBEdit 9.6
New Support for Latest HTML5 Web Standard

BEDFORD, Mass. – October 26, 2010 – Bare Bones Software today announced the release and immediate availability of BBEdit® 9.6, an update to its professional strength HTML and text editor.

BBEdit 9.6 introduces support for HTML5, making it easy for customers to quickly and easily produce correct markup. A refined Translate command simplifies the process of converting documents between HTML and plain text. BBEdit 9.6 also includes support for directory-specific settings and a new command-line option for creating projects.

“BBEdit’s focus on support for both established and emerging standards makes for a legendary history,” said Rich Siegel, founder and CEO of Bare Bones Software, Inc. “BBEdit 9.6’s support for HTML5, including built-in syntax checking of HTML5 documents, helps leading-edge web developers to build and maintain the type of dynamic, engaging web site that is reshaping the web today. The improvements to HTML completion, together with the many other additions and refinements in 9.6, gives those who are keen to get started with this exciting new standard the means to hit the ground running.”

“I’ve been using BBEdit for years, and it just keeps getting better and better,” explained Eric Meyer, author and internationally recognized CSS and HTML expert. “But to me, what makes it truly great is what stays the same: the power, flexibility, and minimally intrusive UI. It gives me the tools I need when I need them and the rest of the time stays out of my way. It’s hard to praise software more highly than that.”

BBEdit 9.6 also offers increased performance for several common operations, including search, and includes several enhancements and refinements, plus fixes for reported issues. Detailed information on all of the changes and improvements in BBEdit 9.6 can be found at:
