Bare Bones Software Releases BBEdit 12.0
Now macOS High Sierra Ready, With 100+ New Features and Improvements, From Color Schemes to New Columns Submenu
NORTH CHELMSFORD, Mass. – October 12, 2017 – Bare Bones Software today announced the release and immediate availability of BBEdit® 12.0, a significant upgrade to its professional strength text and code editor.
BBEdit 12 introduces a new foundation featuring much greater overall integration with macOS, specific improvements for compatibility with macOS High Sierra, and more than one hundred new features, changes, and refinements, including fixes for specific reported issues.
BBEdit 12 also introduces completely rewritten user experiences for its FTP/SFTP, Text Factory, and Preview in BBEdit features. In addition, BBEdit now presents a unified appearance when using a dark editor color scheme, and a wide range of improvements to appearance and behavior resulting from its increased OS integration.
New menu commands include a “Canonize” command on the Text menu for performing batch text transformations, “Paste Using Filter” on the Edit menu for transforming text obtained from other applications, and a new “Columns” submenu of commands on the Edit menu for working efficiently with text in column-delimited formats.
“BBEdit 12 is High Sierra ready, and lays a solid foundation for the next generation of advances,” said Rich Siegel, founder and CEO of Bare Bones Software, Inc. “The improved integration with the OS, along with the new features we’ve added, will immediately make all of our customers more productive.”
The all-new Columns editing commands speed the processing of text in column-delimited formats, including cutting, copying, and removing entire columns of text, as well as a “Rearrange” command for easily changing the order of columns in a file.
The new Canonize command uses a customer-supplied data file to describe spelling changes from one word to another, and can be used to batch a large quantity of such changes for one document, or, via the use of a Text Factory, to many files.
The “Extract” command introduced in BBEdit 11 gains additional power by the optional use of Grep (regular expression) replacement patterns to transform extracted lines during the process.
The built-in FTP/SFTP browser window includes many enhancements, including an outline presentation of files on the remote server, and drag-and-drop uploading of local files.
The “Preview in BBEdit” live preview window for Markdown and HTML has been rewritten, and now features an inspector for visibility into the behavior of HTML documents and scripts as they are previewed.
BBEdit maintains the recently introduced evaluation model in which the full, complete feature set is available for the first 30 days of use. At the end of the 30-day evaluation period, the permanently functional feature set changes to include BBEdit’s powerful editing capabilities, but not its web authoring tools or other exclusive features. BBEdit’s exclusive features may be re-enabled at any time with a purchased license.
BBEdit 12.0 requires Mac OS X 10.11.6 or later. Detailed information on all of the changes in BBEdit 12.0 can be found at:
