macOS Sonoma Compatibility Note
Important information for BBEdit customers
We have identified several bugs and regressions in macOS 14 which affect BBEdit's performance and stability. (FB13219490, FB13213147, FB13264033) For that reason we recommend that you remain on an older compatible version of macOS until such time as Apple addresses these issues. As and when that happens, we will amend our advice accordingly.
macOS Sonoma will not run versions of BBEdit older than 14.6. If you attempt to run a version of BBEdit older than 14.6 on macOS Sonoma, the OS will advise you of this with an alert; confirming the alert will forcibly exit the application.
If you are currently using a version of BBEdit older than 14.6, and are planning to update to macOS Sonoma, we strongly recommend that you update or upgrade (as appropriate) to BBEdit 14.6.9 (the current public release, at this writing) or later before installing the new OS version.
BBEdit 14.6.9 is a free update for all BBEdit 14.x customers. You can obtain it by choosing "Check for Updates" from the BBEdit application menu, or by downloading and installing it from the BBEdit updates page on our web site: https://www.barebones.com/support/bbedit/updates.html.
If you are using an older version of BBEdit and are planning to upgrade to macOS Sonoma, you will need to update or upgrade your installed version, as appropriate:
If your 30-day evaluation has previously expired, you will get a new 30-day evaluation period after installing BBEdit 14.6.9 from our web site: https://www.barebones.com/support/bbedit/updates.html. This is a fine opportunity to try out all of the new features that we introduced since the version you've been using.
If you have a license for an older version of BBEdit (13.x or older), you can download and start using BBEdit 14.6.9 immediately.
